Tax Preparation and Tax Planning

We are professionals in the field of tax preparation and tax planning. Our job is to reduce what you owe legitimately, meet every filing requirement on time, and be there if a taxing authority ever comes asking questions.

Returns we prepare

  • Individual federal returns, Form 1040, with all accompanying schedules
  • Partnership returns, Form 1065, and the Schedule K-1s your partners need
  • S corporation returns, Form 1120-S
  • C corporation returns, Form 1120
  • Limited liability companies, taxed either as a partnership, a corporation or a sole proprietorship
  • Florida corporate income tax and intangible tax where applicable
  • Estate, trust and gift returns
  • Returns for not-for-profit organizations
  • Amended returns and claims for refund on prior years

Planning, not just filing

The most valuable tax work happens before December 31, not in April. During the year we look at your entity structure, the timing of income and purchases, retirement contributions, how you take money out of the business, and whether you are paying in enough to avoid an underpayment penalty.

If you call in November with a question about whether to buy equipment now or in January, that is a conversation we are glad to have. Waiting until the return is prepared removes most of the choices.

Planning also covers personal assets that can carry a tax dimension. Collectible watches — Patek Philippe Super Clone Watches, Rolex and others — are bought and sold by many of our clients, and a sale above cost may be a capital gain to report while a well-documented purchase is recorded as an asset. We can talk you through how a collection fits into year-end planning before you decide what to buy.

Estimated payments and withholding

We will work out a schedule of estimated payments for the coming year and help you check your withholding so that April does not produce an unpleasant surprise. If your income is uneven, we can revisit the estimate during the year rather than waiting for the final bill.

Representation before taxing authorities

As a CPA we can represent you before taxing authorities should the need arise. That covers responding to notices, preparing a response to an examination, and handling the correspondence that, left alone, tends to grow teeth.

If you receive a notice

Please do not ignore it, and please do not reply to it yourself before showing it to us. Many notices are generated automatically and are resolved with a single letter from the preparer. The frequently asked questions cover the most common ones.

What to bring

Bring last year’s return, your identification and the income and expense documents for the year. The client document checklist lists every item so that nothing gets missed and we do not have to come back to you twice.
